Jeanie Lanine

Jeanie's focus is on providing practical and strategic legal advice to assist First Nations with short and long-term sustainable economic and community development goals.

Jeanie is very active in the field, and acts as a facilitator and curriculum developer for the Aboriginal Financial Officer’s Association of BC in the areas of employment, governance, policy development, strategic planning and economic development.  She has also presented at a number of conferences sponsored by Aboriginal organizations, including the Industry Council for Aboriginal Business and the Centre for Native Policy Research. 

Jeanie’s experience includes:

• Leasing and land management under the Indian Act and Land Codes
• Negotiating and drafting impact benefit agreement
• Advising on employment matters including hiring, discipline, dismissal and policy development
• Drafting bylaws, membership codes, and custom election codes
• Administering property tax on-Reserve
• Advising on economic development, including business structures, tax exemptions and financing
• All aspects of First Nations’ taxation
• Litigation, including Aboriginal title, small claims, property disputes, employment matters, and construction defects
